Port of Palm Beach Expansion and Dredging Feasibility Study Continues, Including Federal Funding

Port Engineer and Deputy Executive Director Tom Lundeen reported at the Port of Palm Beach District Board Meeting on February 18:

- The Port is still moving forward with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Feasibility Study to both widen and deepen the channel and harbor and that he is waiting for the scheduling of a Scoping meeting in Jacksonville. 

- On a meeting of the parties (Town of Palm Beach, County, and Port), with Palm Beach Shores present, wherein Port dredging events, sand on-shore, settling basin, Federal funding process, Sand Transfer Plant, permitting for the local dredge option and the USACOE Feasibility Study were all discussed.  No results reported.

- The current proposed Federal budget for 2011 has $2.51M for Port harbor dredging allocated and another $240,000 for the ongoing Feasibility Study.

The Feasibility Study schedule shows work items on Socioeconomic Studies until 2011, Environmental Studies until 2013, Fish and Wildlife Coordination until 2012, and the final report in 2013.
