Town of Palm Beach Civic Association Committees 2011 - 2012


Residents of the Town of Palm Beach serve as volunteers on Civic Association Committees. They meet regularly to discuss issues and monitor developments that impact their community. Whenever a new concern arises, a new committee is formed. Through Civic Association Committees, Palm Beachers work together to protect and preserve their special quality of life.
 
Executive Committee / Nominating Committee (Bob Wright, Chairman)
The committee will set Civic Association policy.  It will oversee the work of the staff and the committees.  It will identify and address specific issues that impact the community.  Sitting as a Nominating Committee, the group will recommend candidates to serve on the Board of Directors.
 
Membership / Directors Development (Chair to be named)
The committee will work with the membership director to develop effective membership recruitment and retention strategies.  It will help plan and produce the January 2012 membership drive.  In addition, the group will raise funds to support Civic Association programs and operational expenses.  It will promote the Legacy Fund and other initiatives to increase giving.

Tax and Finance Committee (Pat Cooper, Chair)
The committee will monitor the operating and capital budgets of the Town.  It will educate residents on financial concerns and evaluate the spending of Palm Beach taxpayer dollars in the community and outside its borders.  When necessary, the group will serve as an advocate for Town residents.

  • Sub-Committee on Palm Beach County (Jack Borland, Chair)
    The sub-committee will represent the interests of Town residents in Palm Beach County government and the County budget process.

Water Resources Committee (Harvey Poppel, Chair)
The committee will participate in a comprehensive town wide water conservation effort.  It will work with the Town officials to improve water resources in the Town of Palm Beach.  It will educate Civic Association leaders, members and Town residents on water issues.

Fund Raising Event Committee (Michele Kessler, Chair)

The committee will plan, organize and carry out the annual Civic Association fund raising event.

Transportation Committee (Jim Ballentine, Chair)
The committee will address transportation issues affecting the Town of Palm Beach.  It will monitor plans to rebuild the north and south bridges and represent Town residents’ interests in airport growth issues.
 
Health Care Committee (Michael Stein and Dr. Richard Conroy, Co-Chairs)
The committee will focus on improving the quality of health care for Palm Beach residents.

Port of Palm Beach / Peanut Island Committee (Chair to be named)
The committee will monitor the Port of Palm Beach, the Palm Beach Inlet and Peanut Island.  It will represent the interests of Town residents and develop effective strategies to prevent excessive growth and commercialization.

Town Beautification (Isabel Furlaud, Chair)
The committee will undertake projects to beautify the Town of Palm Beach.  The group will partner with other community organizations such as the Garden Club and the Preservation Foundation.

  • Sub-Committee on Beach Cleaning (Chair to be named)
    The committee will be develop and oversee a beach cleaning program for the north end of Palm Beach.

Zoning/Town Development Committee (INACTIVE) (Chair to be named)
The committee will guide the Civic Association in addressing the Town’s development issues (Poinciana Way, Poinciana Theater, and Poinciana Plaza, etc.). It will monitor plans for the new Publix and engage in application process.

Public Safety (INACTIVE) (Alan Miller, Chair)
The committee will promote community awareness of public safety issues.  It will meet with representatives of the Police Department and the Fire-Rescue Department and participate in selected projects as needed.

Shore Protection Committee (INACTIVE) (Chair to be named)
If needed, a committee will be formed to become involved in shore protection issues.  Currently, the Town of Palm Beach’s Shore Protection Board represents the interests of Town residents and the Civic Association.
