The Palm Beach Civic Association is grateful for the exceptional life and service of our Honorary Director Lewis M. Schott who passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017.

1923 - 2017

UPDATE: A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Temple Beth El, 579 N. Nova Road in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Interment will follow at Mount Sinai Cemetery in Daytona Beach. A service will be held in Palm Beach at a future date.

Lewis was a much-loved and highly respected member of the Palm Beach community.  He was an active supporter of the Palm Beach Civic Association and a member of the association’s board of directors for more than 20 years. In 2010, he was named Civic Association Honorary Lifetime Director after serving on the association’s executive committee from 1994 to 2009.

In 2011, he received the Civic Association’s Bill Brooks Community Service Award, the association’s highest honor, to an individual whose contribution to Palm Beach significantly improves the quality of life in the town.
Lewis, who at one time practiced law and served as a municipal judge in Daytona Beach, was a private investor and business consultant. In 1955, he founded LMS Securities Corp., which he ran from his office in Palm Beach. He served on various boards in the Palm Beach area, including Intracoastal Health Systems, Intracoastal Health Foundation, and Town of Palm Beach United Way.  He was a life trustee of Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, on whose board of directors he served from 1995 to 2008.
Lewis received his undergraduate and law degree with honors from University of Florida. He established the first Eminent Scholar Super Chair in the Florida State University System. He was a life member of University of Florida Foundation Board, and an honorary member of University of Florida Board of Overseers for the Health Science Center.

As a major Civic Association underwriter, Lewis worked behind the scenes to support the activities of our community organization.  He was our biggest fan whose personal backing made countless worthwhile projects possible.  We will miss his friendship, his grace and style, and his positive words of encouragement.

We extend our deepest sympathy to his family.
