The first frost may herald the approach of winter elsewhere, but here on the island, as the thermometer drops from balmy to blissful, the forecast calls for a flurry of activities rather than snow. Instead of bulky sweaters, sleeveless cocktail dresses are on display in shop windows. As the days grow shorter, the excitement builds. A calendar full of events is taking shape. Musicians are being booked, speakers are being engaged and soon, champagne will be on ice.
As always, the Palm Beach Civic Association will mix business, education, involvement and pleasure as winter residents’ return and the pace of life on the island accelerates.
Our season kicks off on Monday, Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. as we host a Community Forum: Undergrounding Update at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea. Bring your questions and concerns about this looming topic. We have invited the chair of the Underground Task Force, Jeff Smith, Town Manager Tom Bradford and Director of Public Works Paul Brazil to speak at this event, which is open to the public.
Which leads us to our Annual Holiday Party at the Breakers, a fun and festive event for members only that will feature music, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Make plans now to join us on Monday, Dec. 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If not a member, become one today and join us as our guest.
Our next big event, a Cocktail and Discussion on Thursday, Dec. 17 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at The Colony Hotel, Pavilion Ballroom. The topic, which is sure to draw a crowd, will be Amazing Scripps Discoveries that will Change Your Life. Scripps Florida is one of our premier sponsors this season.
Soon after we ring in the New Year, we hope you’ll join us for a Breakfast with Our Visionary Leaders on Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 8 to 10 a.m. at The Colony, Pavilion Ballroom. This gathering for Civic Association members will feature a keynote address by noted Palm Beach County developer E. Llwyd Ecclestone.
The next night, Thursday, January 7 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. we will hold our Major Donor Cocktail Party in a private Palm Beach home of one of our directors.
Bringing a close to January, on Tuesday, January 26 from 10:00 – 11:30, we will hold our Town Council Candidates Debate as well as a discussion on the upcoming referendum on Undergrounding at Bethesda by the Sea. This is open to all Palm Beachers.
And on Thursday, January 28, back by popular demand, the Palm Beach Garden Club will lead our members on a Private Tour of the Four Arts Gardens.
There’s so much more – from a members only breakfast with keynote speaker, Steve Ross, chairman and CEO of the Miami Dolphins, to a tour of the Scripps Florida and lunch with the scientists, and our Annual Awards Luncheon with keynote speaker Bob Wright, author of the Wright Stuff and of course ending the season with our Annual Membership meeting and party.
Don’t miss a thing!
