A grocery delivery company called Shipt is launching a Publix service in South Florida next week. Civic Association News contacted the headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama and confirmed that the Publix store on the island in the Town of Palm Beach is included in the service area.  The service starts Monday, August 18, and will operate from metro West Palm Beach to Miami.

Bill SmithShipt is a member service so you have to join. The cost is $49 per year when you sign up during the current early bird promotion. Shipt says you will get unlimited deliveries on orders over $35.

The regular price is $99 a year or $14 per month. Orders under $35 are subject to a $7 delivery fee.

Palm Beach PublixYou will shop, pay and schedule deliveries using your computer or a mobile app for iOS (iPhone & iPad) and Android. The Shipt website says that all Publix items will be available for same day delivery in as soon as one hour but you can schedule a delivery window.

Trained shoppers handpick the items and deliver them to your door. The shoppers are paid between $15-$20 per hour.

According to the comopany website, Shipt Shopper requirements are:

  • 18 y/o minimum
  • Reliable transportation
  • Current driver’s license
  • Knowledge of produce selection
  • Thorough background check required

The company is not affiliated with Publix, but says that Publix's BOGO offers will be listed in the app.

Publix offered its own delivery service called Publix Direct in 2001, but phased it out within two years.
