"I want to thank God. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here," Mr. Murrell said at the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce breakfast where the award was announced. "I want to thank the Town of Palm Beach. I want to thank my co-workers — Dwayne Taylor, Tony Higgins, Paul Brazil. They've been with me all the way. And the residents of Palm Beach. It's so wonderful for this. I'm so glad to be here."

Mr. Murrell has been a sanitation worker with the town since the 1970's. Mayor Jack McDonald introduced Mr. Murrell and said, "He became a role model for fellow employees, both personally and professionally. And in making this nomination, his director called him a mentor, coach and father figure to young men who sometimes do not have that."

The Civic Association and Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsors of the award which includes a plaque and $3,500.
