While the torrential rainfall over the weekend is causing problems for many people, one good thing has resulted from it. The rain has given a major boost to our low water supply. Good news since forecasters are calling for a drier than normal winter.
West Palm Beach is the only local water department relying on a system of wetlands and lakes which are more vulnerable to drought, like the record dry spell last winter and spring. West Palm Beach had just four to six weeks worth of water left in its primary system. With another dry winter in the forecast, water managers had warned West Palm could run out of water in its primary system by this coming spring.
Over the weekend, nearly five inches fell at Grassy Water Preserve, the wetlands, as well as on Lake Mangonia and Clear Lake.
