Eastbound Ramp from northbound Flagler Drive to close permanently September 12
The Flagler Memorial Bridge Replacement Project will begin on Monday, September 10, as workers deliver equipment and materials to the construction zone. Throughout construction, lane closures and detours will be established as needed to perform work safely. Upcoming lane closures and detours are scheduled as follows, weather permitting:
Beginning on Monday, September 7, one outside eastbound lane on the bridge will be closed as needed, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
On Wednesday, September 12, the ramp from northbound Flagler Drive to eastbound Flagler Memorial Bridge will be closed permanently for construction. The sidewalk along the eastbound side of the bridge will also be closed. The following detours will be in use:
- Drivers going north on Flagler Drive who want to go east over the bridge will take Banyan Boulevard west to Dixie Highway, go north on Dixie Highway to N. Quadrille Boulevard and go east on N. Quadrille Boulevard to go over the bridge.
On Monday, September 17, the ramp from westbound Flagler Memorial Bridge to northbound Flagler Drive will be closed around-the-clock, for approximately three months, for project-related work. During this closure the following detour will be in use:
- Drivers going west on the bridge who want to go north on Flagler Drive will continue going west to N. Dixie Highway, go north on N. Dixie Highway to Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and go east on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard to N. Flagler Drive.
The Flagler Memorial Bascule Bridge (drawbridge) Replacement Design/Build Project includes replacing the existing bridge with a new bascule bridge connecting the Town of Palm Beach and the City of West Palm Beach over the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Intracoastal Waterway. The new bridge is being built south of the existing bridge, which will remain open during construction. The Flagler Drive overpass will be replaced with an “at-grade” intersection. New lighting, pedestrian features, traffic signals, drainage, and landscaping are also included in this project. The estimated cost of this project is $94.2 million.
