The Flagler Memorial Bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, July 28, to 6 a.m. Monday, July 31, in preparation for opening four lanes of traffic on the new bridge. While the bridge is closed, all eastbound and westbound traffic will be detoured to the Royal Park Bridge to cross the Intracoastal Waterway.

The bridge will reopen on Monday, July 31, with four lanes of traffic and a new at-grade intersection with Flagler Drive. A brief ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Monday with local officials on the bridge to commemorate the event. The ceremony will be near the bridge tender's building at the middle of the bridge during a scheduled bridge opening.

FlaglerDriveintersectionmaprev w600The new bridge features a bridge tender house, pedestrian outlooks, 8-foot sidewalks, 10-foot buffered bike lanes, a 21-foot vertical clearance, a 125-foot navigable channel and a solid bridge deck to reduce traffic noise.

Minor construction activities such as landscaping, irrigation and sidewalk installations are ongoing along with making minor fixes, adding touch-up paint and finishing the shared-use path under the bridge.

The Flagler Memorial Bridge Replacement Project replaced the 75-year-old bascule (draw) bridge with a new bascule bridge connecting the Town of Palm Beach and the City of West Palm Beach over the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW). The Flagler Drive overpass was replaced with an “at-grade” intersection. New lighting, traffic signals, drainage, and landscaping are also included. Active construction began on Sept. 10, 2012, and will last until summer 2017.

The estimated construction cost is $106 million.
