Budget balancing act: A cutback story for town, staff, benefits
The economic slump of 2007 kick-started a whole new way of thinking about the cost of government in Palm Beach. Cutbacks have been seen in just about every corner, and the focus remains on how to achieve greater efficiency without sacrificing core services, town officials say.
Palm Beach County government’s past debts equate to about $1,620 for each resident, according to the county clerk’s annual financial report released Tuesday. Clerk & Comptroller Sharon Bock highlighted the county’s $2.1 billion in debt in her evaluation of county spending during the budget year that ended in September.
