Palm Beach County Holds Tax Rate Flat
Palm Beach County commissioners on Tuesday agreed to hold the countywide tax rate steady in 2013-14, while also sparing $84,000 to help pay for social service programs in West Palm Beach it had considered cutting.
The commission voted unanimously to set the countywide property tax rate at last year’s level of $4.99 per $1,000 of taxable value. That tax rate includes a separate levy for voter-approved debt.
At that rate, the county would still generate more revenue than last year, thanks to rising property values.
Budget Proposal Would Increase Palm Beach County Property Taxes
Palm Beach County will be able to hold its property tax rate flat in 2013-2014, while also spending an additional $1.8 million on road resurfacing and beach renourishment projects, County Administrator Bob Weisman said Monday.
Weisman said that a last-minute increase in countywide property values would allow the county to keep the countywide property tax rate at last year’s level of $4.99 per $1,000 of taxable value and still generate more revenue than last year. That tax rate includes a levy for voter-approved debt.
