Jeff Clemens, Florida State Senator
State Sen. Jeff Clemens told Palm Beach officials Tuesday that he’s against plans to deepen and widen the Lake Worth Inlet because of environmental and economic concerns.
“I’m opposed to the expansion of the Port [of Palm Beach],” he said. “To me, it’s just common sense. Economic expansion is always a good thing and I think we need to always look at that as a positive, but it always needs to be weighed in terms of what it means to the local community.
And I just personally have not seen the demonstration of the positive economic impact of this expansion versus the amount of money that the state and others are going to be spending. It looks like we’re going to spend tens of millions of dollars and we’re not going to see that return.”
Representatives Bill Hager and Lois Frankel also have concerns.
