“I still to this day have only heard from people who are against it — lots of different groups, the environmental community, the recreational community. I am still waiting for one person other than Ed Oppel.” - Congresswoman Lois Frankel

Frankel’s letter to Assistant Secretary Jo-Ellen Darcy is the latest development in the controversial $88.6 million proposal to deepen and widen the Lake Worth Inlet and Palm Beach Harbor at the Riviera Beach port’s entrance.

Monday, Frankel said, “The character of this waterway should not be decided by the Army Corps of Engineers or by one Congress person or by a port. It affects a lot of players. It does not just affect the port.

“I still to this day have only heard from people who are against it — lots of different groups, the environmental community, the recreational community. I am still waiting for one person other than Ed Oppel,” she said of the port commission chairman who spoke in favor of the project at a May 13 meeting in West Palm Beach.
