Instead of terminating its agreement with Canadian-based energy company Emera, the Port of Palm Beach recently decided to give the company more time to decide if it wants to build a natural gas compressor and export facility at the port.

At its meeting Dec. 16, the Port of Palm Beach Commission decided to extend its lease and operating agreement with Emera for an additional two years at a lease payment of $10,000 per month. The agreement, originally entered into in May 2014, had been set to terminate Dec. 31 if the company hadn’t provided the port with a business proposal approved by Emera’s Investment Committee.
Town of Palm Beach Mayor Gail Coniglio sent a letter to the Port and agencies outlining the Town's concerns about the proposed CNG facility and shipping next to vulnerable areas.
