Mosquito control officials have twice been to the home of a Palm Beach County resident with a non-travel case of Zika virus and believe there is “very, very low potential” the person was infected locally or has passed on the virus to mosquitoes in the neighborhood.

Gov. Rick Scott announced Monday that the unidentified person is among 21 in the state and the first in Palm Beach County to acquire Zika from a domestic mosquito. The 21 include four that were announced Tuesday by the Florida Department of Health.

mosquito controlEd Bradford, director of mosquito control, declined to identify the neighborhood where the infected person lives, but said workers sprayed around the residence on Friday and Tuesday and checked on homes in the area, but found no reason for concern.
