By: Maureen O'Sullivan -- The Palm Beach Civic Association held its Annual Awards Luncheon on March 14, 2016 at The Breakers in Palm Beach. Bob Wright, CEO of the Civic Association, was the Keynote Speaker, and David Mack, a Civic Association Director, was the recipient of the William J. “Bill” Brooks Community Service Award.

Michele Kessler was Chairman of the Event Planning Committee, which included George Cohon and Robert Nederlander.  

The event, which drew 300 guests, began with a VIP reception in the Gold Room, where sponsors and donors gathered before moving to the Venetian Ballroom for the main event.  Palm Beach Civic Association President Ned Barnes welcomed the guests, made introductions, and with Mr. Wright, co-presented Mr. Mack with the 2016 Community Service Award in recognition of his civic and philanthropic contributions to the Town of Palm Beach, which have significantly improved the quality of life in the community.

Bob Wright & David MackMr. Mack, who is a Vice President senior partner in The Mack Company, and serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of MorseLife, Inc., and Morse Geriatric Center, said he was humbled to be honored with the award named for his late friend, William J. Brooks.

Bob Wright at PodiumMr. Barnes then presented Mr. Wright, who shared stories from The Wright Stuff, his soon-to-be released book about his career in business highlighting when he served as Vice Chairman of General Electric, as former president, CEO, and chairman of NBC and NBC Universal, and about Autism Speaks, the world’s leading advocacy, support and research organization he co-founded with his wife Suzanne.  Following the luncheon, Mr. Wright signed copies of his book, which were given to each guest at the luncheon.  A portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to advance autism research.

The 2016 Annual Awards Luncheon was sponsored by Braman Motorcars, The Breakers, Everglades Foundation, First Republic Bank, Good Samaritan Medical Center, and Scripps Florida. Chairman Michele Kessler, and her husband, Howard Kessler, hosted and sponsored the by-invitation Underwriters Dinner the night before the luncheon.
