Peter Elwell, recently retired Palm Beach Town Manager, was awarded the 2015 Bill Brooks Community Service Award for his 26 years of public service.
In his remarkes, Bob Wright, Chairman and CEO of the Civic Association said, "Peter has been invaluable to the council on complex issues from bridge construction to coastal protection. He was courageous when times got tough after he heeded a council directive to reduce pension benefits to prevent the town's expenses from ballooning out of control."
"Mr. Elwell doesn't lose his cool, as former Mayor Lesly Smith noted recently. He is unfailingly polite. He keeps an open mind and lets the information determine what couse of action he recommends."
In accepting the award, Mr. Elwell said, "It's an honor to receive this award because Bill Brooks was such a positive force in community service."
