Palm Beach Civic Association Committees 2017 - 2018

Committees on Community Issues

Health Care Committee chaired by Jeffrey Levitt, works to improve the level of health care available to Palm Beach residents. The group monitors local medical institutions and educates the public on relevant health care issues.

Long Range Planning Committee chaired by Harvey L. Poppel, seeks to identify, define, and prioritize potentially transformative issues which may impact Palm Beach over the next 10-20 years.

Palm Beach County Committee chaired by Jack Borland, addresses Palm Beach County issues that affect the Town of Palm Beach. The group works with the Palm Beach mayor on specific areas of concern, engages in the annual County budget process, and seeks to build productive relationships with County Commissioners and staff.

Port of Palm Beach / Peanut Island Committee chaired by Robert Holuba, works closely with the newly created “Save Our Inlet” Coalition, the Town of Palm Beach, and the Palm Beach mayor to address Port of Palm Beach, Palm Beach Inlet, and Peanut Island issues.

Public Safety Committee chaired by David Duffy, works to build positive relations between Town residents and police and fire rescue employees. The group partners with the Police Foundation in joint efforts and meets with the Public Safety Director to explore ways to be helpful.

Tax and Finance Committee chaired by Pat Cooper, monitors the Town’s finances, reviews the Town’s annual budget, and makes informed recommendations for improving the Town’s financial condition.

Town Beautification Committee co-chaired by Isabel Furlaud and John Corey, participates in Town beautification issues. The committee undertakes projects that enhance the beauty of Palm Beach and co-operates with other community organizations seeking to beautify the Town.

Transportation Committee chaired by Llwyd Ecclestone, addresses traffic flow and parking issues and other transportation-related concerns affecting the Town of Palm Beach. It monitors airport expansion and serves as an advocate for Palm Beach residents.

Underground Utilities Committee chaired by Jerry Frank, supports the town in its efforts to bury the overhead utility lines. The group monitors the Town’s Underground Utilities Task Force, presents program on undergrounding, and educates residents on the Town’s undergrounding activities.

Operating Committees

Executive Committee chaired by Bob Wright, meets monthly throughout the season to set Civic Association policy, oversee the work of the staff and the committees, and address the major issues in the community. (Executive Committee members are elected by the Civic Association Board of Directors)

Fund Raising / Development Committee chaired by Michele Kessler, helps raise funds to underwrite Civic Association activities and programming. The group plans and produces the Civic Association’s annual fund raising dinner and awards luncheon. It advises the vice president of marketing and membership on fund raising strategies, as needed.

Marketing / Membership Committee, chaired by Brian McIver, works with the vice president of marketing and membership to develop and implement the Civic Association’s marketing and membership programs. 

Raymond J. Kunkel Committee chaired by William Matthews, selects a recipient of the Raymond J. Kunkel Award given each year at the annual meeting to an individual or group who renders heroic and/or meritorious service to the Palm Beach community.
