Consultant: Palm Beach County can save $32M with 1,000 job cuts, Add $3M with rate hike.

Palm Beach County could save $35 million a year by outsourcing 696 jobs, eliminating nearly 300 other positions, and consolidating administrative services with its constitutional officers, according to a Boca Raton accounting firm hired to conduct an efficiency audit of county departments.

In a 100-page report that will be presented to the county commission next week, the firm found that the county could save $12.4 million a year by outsourcing jobs in six departments, including 285 parks and recreation workers and 146 engineering and public works employees. Roughly $7.1 million could be saved by improving efficiencies in the county's community services department, including the installation of a "voice recognition" computer system that eliminates clerical work by translating the spoken word into text.
